.Best Ferry to Sit on the Top Deck of Pretending You’re in a Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks Movie

Larkspur Ferry, Larkspur I can’t pretend for even a second that my happy place in times of stress is anywhere other than When Harry Met Sally or You’ve Got Mail. It’s a golden-lit romantic dreamscape of crisp leaves, beautiful cities, ’90s aesthetic and true love that I shamelessly waltz into whenever I need to decompress from some of the harsher realities of our actual world. And there’s a place to do it, my friends, to take full Tom and Meg effect—the Larkspur Ferry. Park in the parking lot and hop on; stop at the concession stand—if you’ve read my other reviews, you’ll sense a running theme—and grab some peanut M&Ms and a black coffee, then head up to the top deck. Sit and let the wind move through your hair as you glide through the San Francisco Bay and watch the city slowly approach. If it’s a clear day, all that blue sky, yellow candy wrapper and SF architecture will set your weary heart soaring again. And the San Francisco Ferry Building—your drop off—is a historic landmark jammed with contemporary wonders, from cuisine to ceramics. There’s no better way to start a day in the city, and you’ll feel just like Meg, or Tom, or hey, both. www.goldengate.org/ferry/schedules-maps/
