Five bands from St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands make an unlikely migration from Caribbean beaches to the redwoods for a free afternoon of psychedelic, island-inflected funk, rock and pop at Paper Mill Creek Saloon.
The impromptu gathering arose after the bands found themselves stranded on the West Coast following the collapse of San Francisco’s Freak Nest festival.
Headliners The Orange Peels know these shores well—the band was once a fixture of the Bay Area music scene before its founders spent five years on St. John. They return with fellow island acts Mother Goat, PuZL, Housewives of St. John and Chasing Hues, several of whom arrive bearing new music.
Consider it an unexpected tropical storm blowing through West Marin.
1–5pm, Sunday, Aug. 23, at Paper Mill Creek Saloon, Forest Knolls. Free.
