.County, Veterans Plan Virtual Memorial Day Celebration

The Marin County United Veterans Council announced plans Wednesday to move its annual Memorial Day celebration online this year in order to obey Covid-19 health rules.

In a regular year, an annual event at the Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium in San Rafael draws between 500 and 1,000 local veterans and their families.

“We felt strongly that some sort of ceremony happen on that sacred day,” Veterans Council President Ray Mullin said in a press release Wednesday. “Just like everybody else, we’re adjusting to the circumstances. We will miss seeing our friends and mingling with them over coffee and doughnuts afterward.”

Mullin and Sean Stephens, the County’s Veterans Services Officer, will broadcast a live video on the Council’s Facebook page at 8:30am on Memorial Day. The video will be broadcast later in the day on Novato Community Television (NCTV) and Marin TV (CMCM).

Staff from the Marin County Veterans Services program are still supporting veterans by phone at 415-473-6193 and email during the pandemic.
