Resort-O-Rama, Altered States and Moving Pictures

Santa Rosa
Mod, Mod World

The Flamingo Resort turns back the clock for Resort-O-Rama, a four-day celebration of midcentury design, style and splendidly retro diversions. This weekend’s offerings range from seminars on Walt Disney, Bay Area architecture and 1950s cuisine to cocktails, DJs and a classic supper-club dinner featuring San Francisco lounge act Project: Pimento. Special guests include DEVO cofounder Gerald Casale discussing midcentury modernism’s influence on the band’s aesthetic and pop-culture raconteur Charles Phoenix with one of his signature retro slideshows. Add a caftan stroll, pooch parade, spirits and mocktail tasting room and Sunday’s free Mid-Century Modern Marketplace. The finale gets official when Santa Rosa marks “Historic Flamingo Resort and Spa Day”—proof that eventually everything retro becomes civic history. Thursday–Sunday, Oct. 8–11, at Flamingo Resort, Santa Rosa. Sunday marketplace free. resortorama.com.

San Rafael
Altered States

Art Works Downtown and the Lucid Art Foundation explore the territory between what we see and what we sense in Numina, an exhibition curated by Lucid Art Foundation cofounder Fariba Bogzaran. Six artists, including Bogzaran, Nancy Genn, Mike Grady, Jeremy Morgan, Zea Morvitz and Peter de Swart, bring decades-long practices to questions of consciousness, nature, inner experience and the unknown. Through abstraction, meditation, alchemy, light and energy, the works offer different portals into that elusive space between inner and outer worlds. Several of the artists have roots in Northern California’s art-and-consciousness communities, making this less a survey than a constellation of kindred inquiries into what might exist just beyond ordinary perception. 5–8pm, Friday, Oct. 9, at Gallery 1337, Art Works Downtown, San Rafael. Exhibition runs now through Nov. 14; second reception 5–8pm, Friday, Nov. 13. artworksdowntown.org.

Healdsburg
Get Your Spark On

Got an idea for bringing people together but not the nonprofit infrastructure to make it happen? Healdsburg-based Launch Pad Foundation is accepting applications for its Fall 2026 Spark class, offering fiscal sponsorship to community-led charitable projects nationwide. Selected “Sparks” get a charitable home along with donation and grant administration, accounting, technology and practical support, allowing organizers to accept tax-deductible contributions without first forming their own nonprofit. The latest call comes as Peptoc—the viral encouragement hotline born in Jessica Martin’s Healdsburg classroom—graduates from Launch Pad sponsorship to become an independent nonprofit. Applicants should have a clear charitable purpose, a community to serve and a project already underway or ready to pilot. Applications due Saturday, Oct. 10. Selected projects onboard Oct. 15–Nov. 15. Go to lp.foundation/sparks/apply.

San Anselmo
Bodies in Motion

Dance steps off the stage and onto the screen with Moving Pictures: An International Dance Film Series, a two-day program pairing four landmark films with perspectives from master dance artists. Presented by the San Anselmo Arts Commission, the cinematic itinerary ranges from the Roma musical journey of Tony Gatlif’s Latcho Drom and Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen’s exuberant Singin’ in the Rain to Uday Shankar’s surreal Indian dance fantasia Kalpana and Wim Wenders’ tribute to choreographer Pina Bausch, Pina. Each screening opens a conversation about movement as cultural memory, artistic expression and nonverbal communication, with traditions spanning flamenco, ballet, classical Indian and West African dance. Four films, four traditions and plenty of reasons to stay in one’s seat while thinking about jumping out of it to join the fun. 3pm, Saturday, Oct. 17, and 3:30pm, Sunday, Oct. 18, at Robson-Harrington House, 237 Crescent Rd., San Anselmo.
