If We Only Knew
June 12 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm$15 – $25
Have you ever wondered what makes a relationship last? What makes an arts organization last? What makes activists keep making good trouble?
Through story, song, and banter, this multi-media performance performed by Nancy Wang and Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo of Eth-Noh-Tec, promises to take you on the roller coaster ride of their life as a couple, as artists and as activists, revealing the betrayals and recoveries, the bewilderment and blessings that they encountered on their 40-year journey together. In other words, you’ll hear the dirt and the hard-earned successes that Asians are not supposed to talk about! Shhhh….
In “If We Only Knew,” Robert and Nancy defy cultural mandates and hang out their dirty laundry with humor and insight, sharing the naivete and the hard-earned wisdom that pushed and pulled them to their 40th year – and counting!
“If We Only Knew” ponders “if we knew at any given moment in our lives what life held in store for us, how would our lives have been different?”
Eth-Noh-Tec is an internationally renowned and awarded Asian American storytelling theater non-profit founded in 1981 by Nancy Wang and Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo. They perform ancient Asian folktales and inspiring Asian American stories through their unique blending of stylized movement, music and the spoken word in schools, museums, libraries, festivals and theaters.
ABOUT THE UNITED STATES OF ASIAN AMERICA FESTIVAL
This year’s 24th annual United States of Asian American Festival (USAAF) presents over 20 different programs reflecting the artistic accomplishments and cultural diversity of San Francisco’s Pacific Islander and Asian American communities. USAAF showcases artists representing a diverse range of ethnic and cultural groups and aims to heighten the visibility of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) artists working in all disciplines – theater, music, dance, film, literature, visual arts, and more! Our goal is to nurture and empower these groups to be self-sufficient while providing the support they need to grow.
USAAF 2021 is funded by the San Francisco Arts Commission, San Francisco Grants for the Arts, California Arts Council, Fleishhacker Foundation, Zellerbach Family Foundation, startsmall and National Endowment for the Arts.
