WWII in the Shadow of Mt. Tam

2017 is the 75th anniversary of the establishment of a bustling wartime shipyard called Marinship in Sausalito. Innovations, ingenuity, and inspiration all played a part in the day to day routine. Join Ranger Joanne on a 2-mile walking tour of the area surrounding the Bay Model to experience what life in the shipyards was like from 1942–1945. Sue Gonzalez, a SFAI graduate and resident of Point Reyes Station, paints images of water inspired by Tomales Bay. While some of her paintings refer to specific locations along the bay, Sue is most interested in capturing the emotive qualities of water while she explores patterns of movement, reflection, shadow, and color. Sailing Ships of SF Bay

In commemoration of the building of the Matthew Turner, the first Brigantine ship to be built in California in 100 years. This ship will have a permanent home on our Bay Model pier. This program will cover some of the interesting early sailing vessels that made their way in and around the SF Bay Estuary along with a bit of maritime history to include the ever present danger of shipwrecks.
