Geraldine LiaBraaten moves in close to her subjects, photographing her images in unexpected ways, often causing viewers to wonder, “What the heck IS this?” and that’s exactly what she wants. In “Real/Abstract,” she invites viewers to pause and think about what they see before recognizing the image. Her current exhibition reflects her desire to delight and surprise.
Betty Woolfolk was an artist of ingenuity with a playful imagination whose work makes witty comments on pop culture and especially pop science. This retrospective exhibition includes her early work in fiber as well as later assemblage sculptures that combine a surprising mix of materials. Woolfolk was a founding member and long time Executive Director of Gallery Route One.
At 94 years old, Andrew Romanoff is still at it. He makes Shrink Art in his Inverness, CA home studio where he is often joined by his friends Lisa Doron, Todd Pickering and Vickisa for a day of art. (Their work is also included in this exhibit.) His spontaneous, often humorous commentaries on the world are colorful, playful and very popular, and arise from his mischievious take on life.
